Consultation – Formal Living Room

This project started with a lovely space and beautiful decor; however it somehow didn’t feel complete for this client. The main complaints were that the mantel never felt finished, the entryway felt tight, and the space was not clearly defined.

By shifting this furniture so that the settee faces the fire, it allows the space to open up to the entry and the other room, making it feel more inviting and approachable.

By creating 3 defined spaces and functions in the room – The Music Space, The Social Space, and The Library Space – the room feels more open/inviting and the functions of the room are clear.

The Social Space:

By grouping the decor into like items, we were able to create large statements that capture the eye and create stories throughout the room.

The Library Space:

This bench was tucked up under the piano, but we wanted to take full advantage of the length of this room and highlight the separate library space. So it became the library bench, with some beautiful books laid out to entice those over to sit down and paruse the shelves.
