Organization – Family Den

Kids are a game-changer and they change the way we use and organize our spaces! This Den Project was all about making toys easier to find, easier to put away, and re-claiming some adult space.

This massive den provided plenty of play space, but the toys ran the show! Awesome details like the rock fireplace, built-in bar, and built-in bookcases were hidden behind toys.

After

We had two goals: 1) create a toy destination that is easy to manage and blends into the den. 2) highlight adult zone while providing a large low table space for board games and puzzles.

We used 18 bins to house all the small toys and labeled each bin with the category and a symbol (ex. 🎶Music🎶) – meaning everyone can participate in cleanup!

This family already had one of these awesome cubbies – so we used that to base our design off of and added three more! We used two on either side of the window with space in between to create a “parking space” for larger toys, mainly ride ons.

Highlighting Adult Zone with Large Table for Board Games:

I love re-using as much of the client’s current tools as possible. In the Before pictures, these Ikea coffee tables line the wall under the window and housed the majority of the toys. We moved them to the other side of the room, put them together, and utilized chairs and bean bags already in the room to create this awesome game table!

This bookshelf was thinned out, keeping only the favorite books in the center two shelves. The rest of the bookcase is devoted to board games – easy to access and now super easy to play on the game table.
